About Bee-Fit
Since 2006, the Bee-Fit program has helped City of St. Louis employees become more aware of their health status and has provided the resources needed to support important lifestyle changes. Bee-Fit offers a variety of health and wellness programs and services for City of St. Louis employees.

The Bee-Fit Core Committee meets quarterly to strategically plan and evaluate the program. Download the current Bee-Fit Core Committee directory here.

Aditionally, Bee-Fit has Site Contacts who serve as the primary connection for their division to actively promote program communications and share with appointing authorities as well as all employees. Health Screenings
Bee-Fit health screenings provide convenient, on-site services to help participants learn and understand their health measurements and risks. BJC HealthCare professionals are available to discuss results and suggest ways to improve health and minimize risk.

Blood pressure clinics: A registered nurse visits worksites monthly to track employee blood pressure measurements and provides on-site education for avoiding or managing at-risk blood pressure levels. Download the 2016 schedule here.

Mammography breast cancer screenings: Siteman Cancer Center provides a mammography van for City employees three days per year, typically in March, April and May. Dates and scheduling information are mailed to eligible employees each year.

Health Promotion
Bee-Fit health promotion activities offer participants information and education on preventing or reducing health risks to improve health and well-being.

Conquering Calories Class (C3):

Conducted by a registered dietitian, this 6-10 week program is designed to educate, empower and motivate participants to make positive lifestyle changes that will impact their nutrition, weight and overall health.  Group meetings include weekly weigh-ins, weight-loss education and a round table support group model.

Diabetes Wellness-at-Work program: These classes are taught by Certified Diabetes Educator, Jennifer Markee, LMSW. This 10-week program provides attendees with an established diabetes education curriculum with 1-hour classes each week. Participants are given direct access to Jennifer (email, phone, individual meeting times before/after class) during the 10-week program time to ensure support and success in making health improvements. You do not have to have diabetes to participate. This class is beneficial if you have pre-diabetes or would like to be more supportive of a family member or close friend who has been diagnosed.

Smoking Cessation Program: Bee-Fit partners with the City of St. Louis Department of Health to offer a smoking cessation class. The class follows the Freedom From Smoking curriculum provided by the American Lung Association.

The Buzz monthly newsletter: The Buzz is filled with valuable health information and upcoming Bee-Fit programs and activities.

Annual Health Fair: Bee-Fit hosts a health fair in the Rotunda at City Hall. At the fair vendors from the St. Louis metro area provide materials, information and resources related to nutrition, finances, physical activity and occupational health. Various employee benefits plan organizations also participate.

Incentive Programs
Bee-Fit incentive programs aim to motivate individuals to achieve healthy lifestyle goals through fun individual and team competitions. Participants who meet criteria are recognized and rewarded.

Weight Loss Challenge: Bee-Fit’s most popular incentive program. Employees compete as a team of three to five or as an individual during this competition. The top three teams and top three individual males and females who lose the largest percentage of weight receive grand prizes valued between $50 - $200 each.

National Nutrition Month Challenge: During March (National Nutrition Month), Bee-Fit partners with the St. Louis City Health Department to provide a nutrition challenge.

Summer Slim Down: A 4-week portion control program where participants track their daily servings of each food group as well as water intake. Weekly emails full of nutrition information keep participants motivated to stay on track and provide education to encourage healthy choices.

On the Move: This incentive program is designed to get employees as close to the recommended 10,000 steps per day as possible. Participants track their steps and try to increase their steps weekly. Employees can participate individually or as part of a 2-3 person team.

Mile-By-Mile Marathon: Walk, jog and run your way to 26.2 miles (or more) in 6 weeks!  Conversions for swimming and biking are available too.

12 Days of Fitness: Give yourself the gift of health this holiday season.  Bee-Fit challenges employees to exercise at least 12 days during the month of December for at least 30 minutes each day. If participants succeed in this challenge, their name will be entered to win one of three Visa gift cards (valued at $100, $150, $250) courtesy of Bee-Fit.
